Hyundai Sonata vs Honda Accord

At Peacock Hyundai Columbia, we're always seeking to make the car-buying process as convenient as possible. If you're a Columbia, Lexington, or Irmo driver seeking that next vehicle, make sure you know about all your options.

In the midsize sedan category, two of those options are the 2018 Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord. Which one might be right for you, a Hyundai or a Honda? Keep reading to learn more about these two models. You'll be a more informed car buyer when visiting our dealership.

Hyundai Sonata vs Honda Accord: The Interior

There's room for five people inside the spacious Sonata and Accord. For those seated in the front, the Hyundai Sonata provides a bit more space. It has 40.4 inches of front headroom, along with 45.5 inches of legroom. The Accord comes up a bit short of the Sonata, offering 39.5 inches of headroom in the front and 42.3 inches of legroom. The Accord can feel a bit cramped when compared to the Hyundai Sonata. The Sonata also has the edge when it comes to total passenger volume.

When the weather gets a bit chilly, indulge in heated front seats and stay warm regardless of what's going on outside the cabin. The Sonata also comes with an available heated steering wheel, which can warm up your hands and allow you to grip the wheel with ease. The Accord doesn't have this feature. Need space for your important items? The trunks in each vehicle approach 17 cubic feet, enough for a dozen shopping bags or gear for a weekend getaway.

Tech-Friendly Features

Bring technology along for the ride. Both models make it easy to use it, with high-tech features like 7-inch touchscreens and Bluetooth® hands-free capability found in each car. SiriusXM® Satellite Radio is offered as well, giving you access to over 150 channels of commercial-free music, talk, and live sports.

The Hyundai Sonata goes a step further with standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ functionality. Mirroring a smartphone to the touchscreen is a breeze, and you'll be able to read text messages, play music, and access map functionality. This is available in the Accord, but is not a standard feature like it is in the Sonata.

Safety First

The 2018 Sonata and Accord are both considered safe cars by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Each has been given the 2018 TOP SAFETY PICK designation. Both vehicles work to prevent accidents from occurring with the driver assistive safety features. This includes Lane Keep Assist, which detects whether a car is drifting from the lane it's in. Corrective steering will guide the vehicle back to the center of the lane.

Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert comes standard in the Sonata. A warning will be provided if another car is in your blind spot or approaching from the side when the vehicle is in reverse. This is only an available feature in the Accord.

Sonata vs Accord: The Verdict

If you're in the market for a midsize sedan, both the 2018 Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord make sense for those in Columbia, Lexington, and Irmo.

With its interior amenities, technology, and safety features, the Sonata makes for a great choice for area drivers. Take it for a test drive here at Peacock Hyundai Columbia today!
